"CG HOST 101"

SC SUNDAY SERMONS:
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1. Praying Through the Anguish
The message picked Hannah's story back up as she stood up from the meal and prayed in deep anguish. Pastor Earl reminded us that even Jesus, in the garden, was overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. The invitation isn't to wait until the pain is gone to pray, it's to pray right in the middle of it.
Read 1 Samuel 1:9–10 and Matthew 26:37–38
Where in your life are you living in the tension between what you're praying for and the pain you're walking through? What would it look like to bring that to God this week instead of going silent on Him?
2. While You're Waiting, God Is Working
Pastor Earl took us to Jeremiah, stuck in a cistern up to his neck in mud. While Jeremiah was praying, Ebed-Melek was already moving behind the scenes to pull him out. The seed has to go into the dirt before it ever becomes a flower, and the dirt isn't punishment; it's part of the process.
Read Jeremiah 38:6–10 and 1 Samuel 1:20
Which stage of the seed are you in right now: buried, cracking open, sending roots down, or pushing through to the light? What has the "dirt" in your life been growing in you that you couldn't have gotten any other way?
3. From a Promise to a Vow
Pastor Earl pointed out that Hannah didn't just make a promise; she made a vow. He asked why we're so quick to break vows we make to God, but won't break a lease we made with man. Hannah asked God for a son and gave him right back; she wasn't bartering, she was surrendering.
Read 1 Samuel 1:11 and Psalm 76:11
Is there a vow or "foxhole prayer" you've quietly let slip? What's one thing God has given you that you need to open your hands and give back to Him this week?
